Austin Centenary Celebrations at Longbridge

SLIDE SHOW

HOME

The Austin Centenary Celebrations at Longbridge, held on the second weekend of July 2005, has been much documented on other sites such as the Maxi OC and the Austin web sites. All I intend to do here is to show all the photos I took over the weekend. But before scrolling through the shots here’s a personal note on the weekend.

We had a great time. So many enthusiasts turned up with their much loved Austins. Our club had a good turnout and we all enjoyed the camaraderie of being in the Austin clan. One thing I have noticed, over the years of attending Federation meetings, is the lack of snobbery. (It took a little work at the start but we got there in the end.)

Numbers attending were lower than expected and there were a number of reasons for this: Tony Blair announced that the weekend would be the official weekend for the celebrating of VE and VJ day so we lost the Battle of Britain Memorial flight. (The Austin made some 300 Hurricanes and 300 Lancasters for the war effort) There was also an important cricket match on. (Telly, sofa and beer I think!) Coupled with this the heat of the day was excruciating! Most of us lay around like dogs, where possible but, having said this, the Federation made a substantial profit which will be used to further the Austin cause.

Enjoy the photos. I have tried to remember the marks of cars but if you find any mistakes or can help put a subtitle to a photo then please feel free to contact me.Centenary%20photos.htmlHome.htmlhttp://www.austinmaxiclub.org/http://www.austinmotor.co.uk/shapeimage_1_link_0shapeimage_1_link_1shapeimage_1_link_2shapeimage_1_link_3
Me with Hannah and Henry Johnson on a Victorian tandem. Henry on a rare Pathfinder pedal car and a very nice aluminium bodied Austin 7.
