NEW KNOT? WHY NOT?
I’ve always had an interest in knots and bends and was reasonably efficient, as a kid, at tying most of the common ones (and some of the harder ones too). One of the most important, I always thought, was the bowline. This non slip loop is very useful for lifting a person out of a situation without the rope tightening up on them. It’s only bettered, I believe, by the double loop bowline.
The Bowline can be a little difficult to do in an hurry if you’re not well practised and I thought that perhaps there could be an easier and quicker knot which could do the same job. I’m not sure but this knot, illustrated below, could be a new knot. As a child my father said to me that all knots have been invented so not to bother myself with trying to invent another. I’ve studied all the knots I can find on the internet and not, so far, discovered one similar. I have been told that it is just another way of tying the Thief Knot though I have difficulty in seeing it.
HOW TO DO THE KNOT
Make a Clove Hitch but keep the loops small. Pass the loose end of the rope through the Clove Hitch from the back and tighten the hitch over the rope. Pull the loop till the hitch bites the rope end and stops slipping.
